Meet our friendly care team

Our colleagues love what they do and it’s thanks to their dedication, vision and teamwork that Broadwater Lodge is an award-winning home. We all do different roles and come from different backgrounds but we’re united in our commitment to enhancing residents’ lives. You can meet some members of our team on these pages.

Angela Bookham

Home Manager

Angela Bookham

At the age of 16, I became a carer at an orphanage.

I went on to join Broadwater Lodge in 1994 as a care worker, but was quickly promoted through the ranks to team leader and on to deputy manager. After a spell at our sister home, Jubilee House which is a few miles away, I returned to Broadwater Lodge as manager in 2012. I have celebrated 20 years of service with Care UK and look forward to many more years to come.

I really love this job and the opportunities it gives me to make a positive difference to people’s lives. I always strive to put myself in the shoes of residents. More and more people are being diagnosed with dementia, so this is an enormous issue which many of us will face at some point in life. I passionately believe in giving people the level of care and attention I would like to receive if I were in their place.

I’m really proud of the atmosphere we have created at Broadwater Lodge – I’d describe it as a ‘home from home’ and that’s often the first thing people say when they walk through the door. Every day is different here, and that’s down to the work of our three excellent lifestyle coordinators. They do a great job working with the residents, understanding what they want to do and coming up with new and exciting ideas.

Claire Norris
Deputy Manager

I’ve worked for Care UK since 2001 – starting at Broadwater Lodge as a carer, then a team leader, senior team leader and up to deputy manager. I enjoy a challenge and I love the fact that no two days here are the same.

Having been here for a long time, Broadwater Lodge feels like my second home, and the residents and their loved ones are like my extended family. We have a great team here and it’s a privilege to be part of residents’ lives. One of the biggest highlights of my time here was when we achieved our ‘outstanding’ rating from the CQC. It was such a proud moment for all of us.

Karolyne Belchamber
Lifestyle Coordinator

I’ve always worked in a care environment and I joined Care UK back in 1994. I wanted to be able to progress, and the company is well known for rewarding good people. I also wanted to develop my knowledge of dementia, and this was a good place to work with residents who were living with this condition, so I could learn from them and understand their challenges.

I’ve really enjoyed making a dementia-friendly environment here at Broadwater Lodge. We’ve made tactile elements that residents who are living with dementia enjoy touching. Sensory experiences are so important for these residents.

It’s also great to see all the home’s residents having a great time, whatever their needs and abilities. It makes our day. We’re here to enable them to live fulfilling lives, so I’m looking forward to continuing to help them to do just that.

Shawn Lowmass
Maintenance

I used to work in a school and I appreciate the flexible hours I can work here as it fits in with my home life – I have a family and many animals that I care for (I love anything to do with wildlife).

Each day is different, which makes things refreshing. However, one thing I do enjoy is listening to residents talking about their lives and achievements and the places they’ve lived. There are lots of them so my biggest challenge is getting to know everyone here, including their needs and how I can help them, particularly as I only joined the home in 2015.

Our experienced teams

Every day Care UK colleagues live our values of passionate, caring and teamwork to empower residents to enjoy fulfilling lives.

Carers

Our hardworking teams always keep individuals and their families at the heart of the care they provide. We work with you to shape the care your loved one receives, the food they’re served, the activities and experiences they want to do – even the ways they prefer to keep in touch with their friends and family.

Nurses

The nurses at Care UK are highly skilled and receive sector-leading training, which enables them to keep developing expertise in different clinical fields from dementia to palliative care.

Lifestyle

Our dedicated lifestyle teams work hard to organise a range of activities and events at our home. From gardening and baking to quizzes, music sessions and even live entertainment. Above all, we get to know your loved one to make sure our activities are tailored to suit their interests and hobbies.

Home support roles

From catering to maintenance, housekeeping to administration, our home support teams play a crucial part in ensuring individuals enjoy an exceptional and safe service every day.

All our teams get to know each person they care for to ensure they provide a service that’s designed around their unique needs and tastes.

Infection control

Each of our homes have a trained Infection Control and Prevention Champion – they are responsible for carrying out daily infection control audit and ensuring cleaning protocols are meticulously applied.
