Or you might want to

Our care home’s name, Scottish Gaelic for ‘friends and relatives’, sums up the welcome you’ll receive, as well as our approach to care.

Here at Cairdean House, in Colinton, south west Edinburgh, we offer the highest standards of nursing, residential and respite care for older people, including those who are living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Our 90-bedroom purpose-built care home opened in early 2013 and has already established a strong reputation for its expertise and ground-breaking approach.

Inspiring design

Cairdean House is a care home with a difference. It has been innovatively designed by internationally renowned architect, Richard Pollock and sits in the beautiful village of Colinton in Edinburgh. Richard and his team created the design with every thought for the needs of older people, particularly those living with dementia, and the smallest of details are considered in their approach. Care with style

Our care home boasts some beautiful facilities that give it an air, more of a five star hotel than a care home. Each of the en-suite bedrooms is beautifully furnished and has a subtly different colour scheme, so there’s something to suit every new resident. Each room also has a flat-screen television, adjustable profile bed and a 24-hour nurse call system, plus phone and internet connection points.

Independence is the key

All of our residents are encouraged to play an active part in the life of our home, from engaging in the daily goings-on to taking part in activities that they have always loved. A range of group and individual activities are also planned every day to keep residents active and engaged, whatever their interests and abilities. And the many facilities, ranging from The Terrace coffee shop to the Palm lounge, the hair salon and the cinema, provide all sorts of options, whatever the weather.

Support for you and your loved one

Our dedicated, highly experienced care team gets to know each resident – their life stories, physical needs, likes and dislikes – then creates a care plan that’s entirely tailored to their needs. We become as close to residents’ families as we do to the residents themselves, and each family is involved in the care planning process. Their insights into their loved one’s past and personality make it so much easier for us to understand and care for their loved one. In turn, we help to improve their lives, taking on the responsibility of their loved one’s full time care, while they rediscover quality time together.
