Welcome to Grangewood

Grangewood is a purpose-built care home in the village of Shiney Row in Houghton-le-Spring, Tyne & Wear. Our bright and welcoming care home provides quality residential care for older people, including those living with dementia.

All of the bedrooms at Grangewood have en-suite facilities and are stylishly furnished. Each has a 24-hour nurse call system and telephone, internet and television connections. Your loved one is welcome to bring their own treasured possessions and items of furniture to help them to feel more at home.

Our home has a strong community atmosphere. Most residents have lived locally all their lives - as have many of our colleagues. Often, when a new resident moves in, they're instantly among old friends and familiar faces.

We pride ourselves on the transparency of our care quality and fee information - ensuring you can trust us to care from that very first step.

Memory dance - free event at Grangewood

Join us for the last Friday of every month, 2pm - 4pm for a dance! Listen, dance and reminiscence to many songs over the decades, sparking those magical memories.

We support your loved one to maintain their independence by taking part in group and one-to-one activities, outings and entertainment in the home. They’re also welcome to do small tasks around Grangewood if it brings them a sense of purpose. Every day can be exactly what they’d like it to be.

One of my favourite parts of the day is chatting to residents and listening to their life stories. There’s so much we can learn from the older generation.

Staff are professional, caring and very helpful. Anything we need they'll bend over backwards to hep us. Mum is happy, space is main priority and couldn't ask for anymore from the staff. They care for the residents and their families as well.

They listen to their needs and respond to how mums feeling that day e.g. if she doesn't want to take part in activities. Whatever she wants they'll catch her another time and just respond to what mum needs.

There are exercise classes and we are invited to join in any activities any time when visiting. The staff also join in with us.
