Care home residents set sail down the Thames

Company news

Residents at a Care UK home in Kingston-upon-Thames recently took to the water for an exciting afternoon of boating on the River Thames.

To top off a fun-filled summer, residents at Sherwood Grange set off on their adventure taking in the beautiful scenery and spotting a number of famous landmarks including Hampton Court Palace, Walton Bridge and Raven Ait Island.

Following the afternoon of sightseeing, the boat moored up while residents were treated to a delicious champagne lunch, complete with smoked salmon blinis. After a relaxing dinner surrounded by wildlife, residents discussed their highlights of the day as they sailed home.

Rick Mayne, home manager at Sherwood Grange, said: “We are always looking for exciting events and activities that residents can take part in within the local community as part of our activity based care approach. We have a few keen sailors here at the home so the trip has been excitedly discussed among the residents for quite some time.

“The residents had a wonderful day on the boat and enjoyed taking in the scenery and feeding the birds. Many residents will have grown up in the local area, or have spent a lot of time here, so revisiting some of the well-known landmarks proved to be a great reminiscence activity.”

Sherwood Grange has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full time residential and dementia care, as well as short term respite care.
