Care UK invites people in Hampton Hill to celebrate Care Home Open Day

Care UK’s Laurel Dene care home in Hampton Hill is inviting local people to visit the home on Hampton Road on Friday 19^th June to join in its celebrations for Care Home Open Day.

From 10.30am to 3.15pm, the team at Laurel Dene will be opening the doors to the care home for a free family-friendly event. Visitors will be able to enjoy tea and home-made cake while they meet members of the friendly team at Laurel Dene and take the opportunity to tour the care home.

The event is one of thousands planned throughout the UK for Care Home Open Day.  The annual initiative is aimed at challenging perceptions of care homes, creating lasting links between care homes, residents and their local communities, and developing relationships across the generations.

Kathy Harman, home manager at Laurel Dene, said: “Care homes undoubtedly play an important role in the local community; however some people have preconceived ideas about the care environment and what day-to-day life is like for residents. This is partly because they have never seen a modern care home for themselves. 

“We are therefore looking forward to getting behind Care Home Open Day on Friday 19^th June.  We cannot wait to showcase everything Laurel Dene has to offer and the difference care homes make to residents’ lives and their wellbeing.  We have planned a fun day for all the family and a warm welcome awaits the people of Hampton Hill.”

Visitors to the Care Home Open Day event at Laurel Dene will also be able to pick up their copy of Care UK’s Good to Go.  The free guide highlights how important it is for those living with dementia – and their carers – to get out and about, and the emotional and physical benefits of staying active.

Good to Go provides practical advice on how to make the most of every outing, big or small, with words of encouragement volunteered by people working in Care UK care homes, as well as residents and family carers.  The guide can also be downloaded free at www.careuk.com/goodtogo.
