Care UK invites people in St. Ives to celebrate Care Home Open Day

Home news

Care UK’s Field Lodge care home in St. Ives is inviting local people to visit the home on London Road on Saturday 20th June to join in its celebrations for Care Home Open Day.

From Midday until 4pm the team at Field Lodge will be opening the doors to the care home for a free family-friendly event. Live entertainment will be provided by singer Gwyn Pritchard who will be getting the party started with a selection of hits from across the decades; and there will be a barbecue to give everyone a taste of the summer.

For those who want to take the opportunity to find out more about Field Lodge and care homes in general, representatives from the Care Quality Commission will be on hand and visitors can also meet the friendly team at Field Lodge and take a tour of the home.

The event is one of thousands planned throughout the UK for Care Home Open Day.  The annual initiative is aimed at challenging perceptions of care homes, creating lasting links between care homes, residents and their local communities, and developing relationships across the generations.

Matthew Cox, home manager at Field Lodge, said: “Care homes undoubtedly play an important role in the local community; however some people have preconceived ideas about the care environment and what day-to-day life is like for residents.  This is partly because they have never seen a modern care home for themselves.

“We are therefore looking forward to getting behind Care Home Open Day on Saturday 20 June.  We cannot wait to showcase everything Field Lodge has to offer and the difference care homes make to residents’ lives and their wellbeing.  We have planned a fun day for all the family and a warm welcome awaits the people of St. Ives.”

Visitors to the Care Home Open Day event at Field Lodge will also be able to pick up their copy of Care UK’s Good to Go.  The free guide highlights how important it is for those living with dementia – and their carers – to get out and about, and the emotional and physical benefits of staying active.

Good to Go provides practical advice on how to make the most of every outing, big or small, with words of encouragement volunteered by people working in Care UK care homes, as well as residents and family carers.  The guide can also be downloaded free at www.careuk.com/goodtogo.
