Generations come together at Mills Meadow

Home news

Residents at Mills Meadow were joined by local primary school students for an afternoon learning about nocturnal animals.

As part of the educational afternoon, students from Yoxford & Peasenhall School and residents at the home came together for story time, learnt about different owl species and had a go at making their own hedgehogs using clay and cocktail sticks.

Students are regulars at the home and day club, visiting every month to take part in different activities. The children pair up with residents, learning about each other’s interests and favourite pastimes, teaching each other new and old songs, and taking part in story time at the end.

Marie Reeve, home manager at Mills Meadow, said: “At Mills Meadow, we strive to build relationships with different generations. Not only does it allow the older generation to impart wisdom and share experiences with the younger students, but it also helps to improve the mental and physical wellbeing of the residents.”

Mills Meadow day centre manager, Pauline Mortimer, said: “The pupils and residents had a wonderful time getting to know each other and learning about nocturnal species. We look forward to working with pupils at Yoxford & Peasenhall School on future projects and will continue to build on these friendships.”
