Local couple shares secrets to a long and happy marriage

Home news

A resident at Tiltwood and his wife of 52 years, have been sharing their pearls of wisdom for a long and happy marriage.

Ray Old from Tiltwood and his wife Marion, aged 75 and 73, have been featured in a commemorative video in which they talk about their own love story, to mark the Queen and Prince Phillip’s marriage milestone.

The Cobham couple met in 1963 when they both worked at Thermostats. Marion recalls that when they first began dating, she had purple hair much to the disapproval of Ray’s parents, but it didn’t deter Ray as he asked Marion to marry him.

Revealing the secret to a long and happy marriage, Marion said: “You have your ups and downs but you’ve got to be honest with each other – I love my Ray more and more every day, and that will never end. "
