Local hero to open town’s newest care home

Banbury’s newest care home, Highmarket House, is inviting the local community to attend its ‘Grand Launch’ where Peter Turner MBE, and his great granddaughter Lucy McNally, will officially open the home.

On Thursday 9th November, from 2pm-4pm, local people are invited to visit the care home at North Bar Place to join in the celebrations.

Peter Turner MBE, local fundraiser and founder of the Parkinson’s Fellowship in Banbury, and his great granddaughter Lucy will be cutting the ribbon and officially opening the care home.

With the first residents having moved into Highmarket House in September, everyone at the home is gearing up to mark its official opening.

After the official proceedings are complete, guests can take part in arts and crafts activities including: a cupcake contest in the ground floor restaurant, flower arranging in the hobby room and origami sessions in the first-floor restaurant.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to try the ‘interactive wall’ in the cinema. The ‘interactive wall’ displays a mirror image of the user while projecting dynamic moving images that they can interact with. This helps to aid motor skill development and coordination, while also acting as a therapeutic tool to calm or stimulate. 

There will also be live music from students from Banbury and Bicester College and string quartet, Ariella Strings, as well as entertainment from silhouette artist, Steve Price. Head chef, Mark Roberts, will also provide specially prepared canapés for guests to enjoy.

Those who attend the event will also have the chance to meet the team at Highmarket House, as well as take a tour of the care home.

Highmarket House home manager, Julia Hedley, said: “Since we opened the doors to Highmarket House, we have had such a warm and positive response from those living locally, and we already feel like part of the community. We would therefore like to invite the people of Banbury to be part of our official opening celebrations.

“We have planned a family-friendly event to appeal to all generations, and we are delighted to have Peter Turner MBE and his great granddaughter Lucy coming along on the day to help us mark this important milestone.”
