Local women help name town’s newest care home

September 4 2018

Two local ladies have won a competition to help name a brand-new care home in Chester.

Louise Scarlett, from Chester, and Beryl Johnson, from Huntington, took part in a competition to name the new Care UK home on Chester Road, which opens in summer 2019.

The competition called for the people who know the area best, its residents, to share suggestions which had cultural or historical reference to the town.

Louise and Beryl both suggested the home’s name included ‘Dee’, after the River Dee which runs through Huntingdon. The home has since been officially named ‘Deewater Grange’.

Daniel Turner-Naylor, regional director at Care UK, said: “The home naming process is one of the key milestones for the new home, so it was important to involve the community in the decision. All of the names put forward were of a very high quality, but we felt Deewater Grange was original and really rooted the home in the local area.

“We’re so grateful to everyone that made a name suggestion, and Louise and Beryl for helping select the home’s name.”

Louise said: “I have spent my life in Chester, so when the opportunity arose to be a part of the town’s history, I leapt at the chance.

“I am delighted the home has been officially named Deewater Grange. It’s a lovely way of continuing the tale of the ‘River Dee’ and celebrating the history of the town – and the people who live here.”
