On your marks… Care homes compete in county-wide sports day

Home news

Mills Meadow in Framlingham hosted ten neighbouring care homes when they competed in a fun sports day event.

The team at Mills Meadow on Fore Street welcomed Care UK homes from across the county as residents and care teams competed in a variety of challenges, from a sack race and welly throwing, to a tug of war and a fancy dress competition.

After an energetic morning of traditional games, residents were treated to a delicious barbecue and afternoon tea, prepared specially by the Mills Meadow and Glastonbury Court chefs. Later, teams took part in an Olympic-style awards ceremony to crown the day’s winners, Mills Meadow.

Marie Reeve, home manager at Mills Meadow, said: “Last year’s event was a great success, so we hopped, skipped and jumped at the chance to host the Care UK sports day again this year. We are part of a strong care home community here in Suffolk and days like this are a great way of bringing us all together for fun, laughter and to celebrate the year’s achievements.”

Glastonbury Court home manager, Sharlene Van Tonder, who helped orgnaise the event said: “It’s so great to see an event like this all come together after months of hard work preparing for the day. We all had a lovely time, and it was fantastic to see residents, and the care teams making new friends and sharing in laughter and games.”

Wendy Harvey, home manager at Davers Court in Bury St Edmunds who also participated in the sports day added: “We’d like to extend a huge thank you to all those who organised the event and we’re already looking forward to next year!”
