St Ives care home hosts 1920s party to celebrate first year anniversary

Company news

It was party time at Care UK’s Field Lodge recently when the St Ives care home marked its first anniversary with an afternoon of celebrations, inspired by the roaring twenties.

The purpose-built care home, which is situated on London Road, has so far welcomed a total of 90 residents for long-term or respite care since it first opened its doors in February 2014. A special 1920s themed anniversary party was thrown to toast the home’s first successful year, with the care team raiding their dressing-up boxes to capture the spirit of the era.

Residents and the care team at Field Lodge were also joined by family, friends and members of the local community for cake and Buck’s Fizz, while local duo Stella Hensley and Chris Newman got the party going with a swing with a live set of blues, slide and ragtime. Lisa Houghton, deputy manager, also hosted a fun awards ceremony to recognise colleagues who have been outstanding in their roles. This also gave everyone the opportunity to take an amusing look back on the last 12 months.

Home manager, Matthew Cox, said: “We were all incredibly excited to mark our first year anniversary. Everyone felt it was an important milestone for Field Lodge and we certainly celebrated in style! The last year really has flown by and there have been many highlights – from welcoming 90 residents to their new home here, to being given the seal of approval by national care watchdog, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) – just four months after opening.

“We are all very proud of Field Lodge – not least the warm and welcoming care environment we have created here in St Ives – and we did not want to miss the opportunity to get into the party spirit and say a huge thank you to absolutely everyone involved in our success.”

The next key date in Field Lodge’s programme of events is an understanding dementia session, which is open to those in the local area, including family carers, and is set to take place at the care home on Wednesday 4 March from 12 noon until 3pm.

At the free event, Neil Mapes from Dementia Adventure will share his knowledge and provide practical tips for those caring for someone living with dementia. Neil will help people understand the condition and how memories are lost, and he will also give guidance on how to overcome communication barriers.
