We’re celebrating our ‘creative communities’
Every year, care homes across the country open their doors to the public for National Care Home Open Day, a fun and relaxed event that helps to showcase what goes on in the UK’s many fantastic care homes. This year’s event takes the theme of ‘Celebrating Arts in Care’.
Care UK’s homes are incredibly creative communities. We support all residents to express themselves through painting, sculpture, photography, poetry, movement, drama and music – in fact, any art form that they are familiar with, or would like to try. This enables them to enjoy meaningful and rewarding experiences, which is what our ethos of care is all about.
Bringing communities and care homes together
Care Home Open Day is about creating links between care homes, their residents, and their local communities, breaking down the myths around care homes and enriching people’s lives by bringing them closer together.
This year, over 100 Care UK homes across the UK will be opening their doors for Care Home Open Day, with unique, relaxed and fun-filled activities for family, friends and local people. We’d love you to join us.
We’re making more of the day
While Care Home Open Day is officially on Friday 28th June, we’re encouraging our homes to make a weekend of it, hosting their own arts-inspired events between Friday 28th and Sunday 30th June. Our homes are still finalising the details, but expect everything from craft workshops and art exhibitions, to pottery and photography classes, poetry readings and music sessions.
We’ll also be inviting local entertainers and performers, as well as schoolchildren and community groups, into our homes to take part in performances. The more interactive, the better!
Here for you, every day
Care UK’s homes are open every day. If you can’t make one of our Care Home Open Day events, but you’d like to know more, please contact your local home to arrange a tour at a time that suits you.
What happened last year?
Care Home Open Day was in April 2018 and was themed around Her Majesty the Queen’s 92nd birthday. Care UK homes laid on a right royal variety of events, from royal tea parties to Commonwealth celebrations – each unique, and each a fun, family-friendly day to remember.
