Care Home Open Day - 16th June 2017
Over 100 of our homes opened their doors again for this year in celebration of Care Home Open Day!
What is Care Home Open day?
Every summer, care homes across the country open their doors to the public for this fun event to showcase what goes on in the UK’s many superb care homes.
Having fun and making new friends
Care Home Open Day is about creating links between care homes, their residents, and their local communities, breaking down misconceptions and enriching the lives of people by bringing them closer together. Here at Care UK over 100 of our homes across the UK opened their doors to celebrate National Care Home Open with a series of fun-filled activities for family, friends and the surrounding communities.
From antique valuations, visits from exotic animals and teddy bear picnics, to performances from local musicians and entertainers, each care home held a unique event designed to get everyone in the party spirit. Just some of the festivities included a world cuisine party at Appleby House in Epsom, where staff and guests dressed in national clothing from cultures around the world and enjoyed a special barbecue with dishes inspired by different nations. Manor Lodge, in Chelmsford, organised a summer garden party with a Rock ‘n’ Roll sing-along and a special visit from Wellies-On, a care farm which brings together care of the land, environment and animals, with care of people. And the team at Cairdean House in Edinburgh, hosted a Fun Day of garden games, including a tombola, charity sponge throw, croquet, a bouncy castle, and a prize raffle.
We are proud that so many of our homes and friends within the local community embraced Care Home Open Day and we are looking forward to celebrating again next year.
