Julie Okhae

Home Manager

Julie Okhae

I’ve been a Home Manager since 2007 and have achieved my Level 4 Leadership and Management qualification as well as leadership in dementia accredited by Worcester University.

I worked for another large organisation previously, and I liked the structure and support that I received. I felt that Care UK was a perfect fit for me, and I really took on board the Care UK visions and values.

I believe it’s important for a Home Manager to be patient, kind, and have good communication skills. You need to work with the team to provide the best possible care for residents within the home and improve the team’s skills to provide a pathway for progression.

I love spending time with residents, and I feel proud when I see they are happy and well cared for. The most important part of my role is to ensure that residents are safe and well cared for and that the home is maintaining quality in line with CQC regulations.

I enjoy mentoring colleagues and supporting them to succeed in their careers. All the Team Leaders at Station House have progressed from being a carer, and I enjoy seeing them grow and develop. I feel happy when I see that the team is ahppy and working together as a team.

I also feel proud when the home has positive feedback from residents, relatives and visiting professionals.

Donna Howard
Deputy Manager

I have worked for Care UK for most of my adult life. I first started here in 2001 as a Care Assistant, working up to Team Leader and later Unit Manager. I’ve held the Deputy Manager post since February 2023.

Care UK has been a really good company to work for and they invest heavily in the team’s development. I’ve just completed my three-year nursing degree.

My role is to provide a safe environment for residents to live and for colleagues to work in, ensuring that all regulatory and contractual standards are met. You need good team leading and communication skills in this role, as well as compassion, patience and resilience.

I’m proud when I watch interactions between residents and colleagues, seeing them laughing together, and when I see the growth and development of our team, especially seeing colleagues who are new to care flourishing and eager to learn more and progress.

Outside of work, I enjoy taking holidays with my family and spending lots of time with my grandchildren.

Robert Crane
Suite Manager

I was new to care before arriving at Station House, and I thought Care UK provided the right training and support for me to progress in my passion and career. I’ve worked my way up from Carer to Team Leader to Suite Lead.

As Suite Lead, I make sure the unit runs smoothly and calmly and that every person in my care – residents and colleagues – feels valued. In this role, you must be passionate, caring, understanding and work well in a team. It’s important to have the right knowledge, communication skills and a good work ethic, too.

At Station House, the residents become more like family. I even begin to miss them when I’m not in the home, so seeing them is my favourite part of the day. I feel proud when the residents are happy and comfortable and we are meeting every person-centred need for every individual.

Andrew Latchford
Head Chef

Before Care UK, I worked as a Head Chef at the pub, The Spinner and Bergamot. I moved to Station House to enjoy a better work-life balance. I’ve achieved my Level 2 qualification in professional cookery.

As a Head Chef, you need to be organised, adaptable to change and calm. It’s my job to ensure all residents are catered for and health and safety guidelines have been met, and I feel fulfilled when residents are happy with their meals. The highlight of my career? Cooking for Take That!

When I’m not at work, I enjoy playing golf and spending time with my family.

Conner Rawsthorne
Business Administrator

I joined Care UK in 2019 as a Receptionist/Administrator. I was a student at Manchester Metropolitan University, and the home was advertising for a part-time receptionist. I was interested in learning about the industry and seeing what Care UK was all about.

During my time at Station House, I have completed a degree in Hospitality Business Management, and this has allowed me to transfer some of my knowledge into the health and social care sector.

In a Business Administrator role, it’s important to be organised and focused, and to be able to communicate with residents, relatives and colleagues. My job is to ensure all administrative needs for the home are kept up to date. I enjoy spending time speaking to residents. I also work as a Chef at Station House, and I’m always proud when I get good feedback from residents.

Outside of work, my main interests are watching Everton or Formula 1.

James Blackburn
Maintenance

I was working as a support worker before becoming Head of Maintenance. I joined Station House because I was looking for a more hands-on role. In maintenance, you need to be active, good at solving problems and work well under pressure.

Health and safety is the most important part of my role. Through my training, I ensure residents, relatives and colleagues are all safe. Once I’m finished running all of the checks to keep the care home safe, I enjoy taking a hands-on approach to my role and building things for the care home. In the past, I’ve built a market stall and a bar. I like every job to be done 100 percent to the best of my ability.

When I’m not at work, I enjoy fishing, socialising, going for days out and gaming.
