A care home with a difference
Colne View challenges the typical view many people have of care homes. As soon as you set foot inside our bright, modern and welcoming building, you’ll notice that it’s designed around a ‘village green’. Created to evoke memories of an old-fashioned village, there’s a coffee shop, a cinema with vintage-themed props and pictures, a village store and a hair salon. The result is a fun and lively space where residents can socialise with friends or family and enjoy a change of scene and a treat even when it’s wet outside.
Everything we do at Colne View is designed to make our residents’ lives more fun and rewarding. A number of our residents have relatives who live a long way away, some overseas, so our cinema can be set up for residents to talk to relatives on Skype on the big screen.
We foster an open approach to residents’ care: encouraging them to tell us what interests and hobbies they’d like to rekindle – or new ones they’d like to try. They suggest trips they’d like to go on, and even different foods they’d like to sample. Our staff then pull out all the stops to make these wishes come true.
Keeping busy
We encourage our residents to keep as active and independent as possible. By playing a part in the life of Colne View, our residents stay positive and engaged, and feel more settled and comfortable. So whether a resident wants to bake a cake for afternoon tea, do a spot of gardening, or lay the table for dinner, their contribution is always welcome. And we love sharing a joke or a story while we work.
Our dedicated activity manager plans different activities and trips for residents to take part in every day, all based around their interests and hobbies. Our popular day club welcomes day guests who join our residents to take part in a host of activities from arts and crafts to music and singing and gentle exercise. It’s a great way for residents to meet old friends from the local area or make new ones. Professional entertainers frequently perform for us and get our resident stars acting and singing. But the stars of the show for our residents are always the local schoolchildren who come and treat us to concerts and plays.
Luxury and attention to detail
All our residents’ rooms are stylish and spacious and individually decorated. Every room has an en-suite shower room and high quality furniture and soft furnishings help to create a sense of luxury. Residents are also welcome to bring their own pieces of furniture to help them feel as settled as possible.
As you wander around the home you’ll discover cosy and beautifully decorated lounges and seating areas where residents can sit and relax, chat with friends and family, or take part in the day’s activities. We’ve paid special attention to designing these areas with a vintage theme, to bring back memories for our residents. Even the smallest details can encourage them to reminisce and share their rich experiences and life stories.
