Carbon report
We have drawn together a baseline report outlining the direct carbon emissions which Care UK releases through its business practice. This includes our carbon footprint from business mileage, gas and electricity consumption and procurement.
Our initial work on business mileage has highlighted the need for a more systematic approach across the group to the way we collate data on business mileage – by miles travelled, rather than the range of ways in which this data is collected currently. Having established this baseline we will now identify ways in which consumption can be reduced on an ongoing basis – through the greater use of video conferencing; car sharing; public transport as well as incentivising the use of more economical vehicles.
We are investigating the wider use of energy efficient light bulbs (which have already been introduced in most of our residential care homes). We are also pro-actively looking at waste management in our offices to ensure that we recycle more of our waste and reduce the amount bundled together – making recycling more difficult.
We are drawing up a questionnaire for circulation to our top 20 suppliers to seek more information about their own CSR activity and will incorporate this into future tendering processes for our partners.
