Combining GP practice and walk-in-centres
Tollgate Lodge in Hackney and Broad Street in Barking combine a GP practice with a locally focused walk-in centre (WiC). The GP practices have built up a strong registered patient base from scratch, operating extended hours each weekday and also providing Saturday morning sessions.
The WiCs use multidisciplinary teams to deliver care across minor injury and illness, seven days a week. In addition to the CATS service described below, we have also recently commenced delivery of a new CATS service operating from the Broad Street site.
GP Practice with extended hours
Charlestown commenced on 8th August 2008, procured as part of the Fairness in Primary Care programme. It delivers an extended hours GP service to a suburb of Manchester.
Walk-in centres for busy commuters
The Department for Health commissioned us to provide greater access for commuters in London. The results were a walk-in centre in Victoria Walk-in Centre, near Victoria Station, London.
The centre provides a much needed resource to relieve pressure on local health services.
The walk-in centre employs a multidisciplinary team of triage nurses, nurse practitioners and GPs to deliver care. This mix of skills means we are able to deal with 90 per cent of patients without needing to refer them to A&E or other providers.
