Corporate & social responsibility (CSR)
At Care UK, we are committed to environmental best practice and will do our best to minimise the environmental impact of our activities. To ensure that we achieve this goal we are committed to continuous improvement of all of our operations. This will be undertaken through the identification and implementation of environmentally responsible practices and procedures in order to reduce the overall environmental impact of the organisation.
- CSR is about our commitment to behave ethically.
- It is how we contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of our staff and their families as well as of the local community and society at large.
- CSR is an issue in which we all have a stake.
- Our actions today will influence the lives of future generations through for example, trying to protect the environment.
- CSR is about changing the way business is done.
- CSR needs to be embedded in an organisation’s culture to make a change to actions and attitudes.
Energy efficiency
We will assess our Group energy use and design a programme, with targets, to reduce the amount of energy we use in our units, homes and offices.
Business travel
We are currently assessing the environmental impact of our business travel, to explore the potential for new ‘green’ business travel polices and processes.
Waste & recycling
We will prepare a plan to reduce waste from our units, homes and offices.
Water use
We will work to improve water use efficiency, setting measurable targets in future years.
Responsible procurement & supply and contractor standards
Introducing a benchmarking system when sourcing both supplies and services is a key commitment in the procurement process – we will also develop our guidelines, working with suppliers to integrate them into our green procurement process.
Employee involvement
We will aim to fully engage our staff in our CSR commitments, rewarding best practice and green initiatives.
Encouraging healthier lifestyles
By providing lifestyle information about such issues as diet, exercise and smoking, we aim to improve the well being of our service users, patients and staff.
Working with the community
Engagement with local communities is a vital part of the CSR development programme, helping us to build stronger, better teams. Our staff continue to make a difference – they have supported over twenty local and national charities over the past year. Fundraising activities have ranged from fire walking to sponsored bike rides in Vietnam and Cambodia. With our £ for £ Matched Funding Programme, we double the impact of these activities.
