More than two thirds of the people in our care homes and day centres have dementia, and we are dedicated to helping each one of them to enjoy lives that are as independent, active, and fulfilled as possible.

Everyone we care for at Care UK is an individual - someone with a lifetime of experiences, interests and memories before he or she developed dementia. And, just as each person is unique, so is our care, tailored sensitively around individual needs and based on choice, familiarity and personal preference.

Active encouragement...

For someone with dementia, staying active is a boost to self-confidence and is a way of maintaining physical and mental health for longer. Our Activity Based Care uses a range of activities - everyday tasks such as laying the table or making tea – to encourage a person with dementia to continue using their skills and playing a valuable part in daily life.

First-hand experience, first-class care...

Staff at Care UK homes and day centres are naturally warm, friendly, and compassionate people and our training helps them to develop these qualities still further. We have developed our own unique ‘experiential’ dementia training programme which builds on natural empathy by giving care staff the opportunity to experience first-hand the challenges, frustrations and perspective of someone living with dementia. Our ground breaking training has been featured by the BBC who filmed the dementia training in action.

All Care UK care homes are designed and built to ensure the lives of residents with dementia are made easier. Every little detail - both inside and out, helps to create a stimulating yet familiar, home-from-home that’s conducive to promoting a greater sense of safety, comfort, and well being.

Raising the standard of dementia care

96 per cent of Care UK homes are rated as good or excellent by the Care Quality Commission, but we continue to look for innovative ways to improve our service and the quality of care we provide. To that end, we recently carried out a groundbreaking pilot study that shows how active empathy and the right environment increases contentment for dementia residents living in Care UK homes and have seen some impressive and positive results.
