Transfer of further former Southern Cross homes

Care UK Health & Social Care Investments Limited, the leading health and social care provider, announces that it has completed the transfer of a further 12 care homes formerly operated by Southern Cross Healthcare Group Plc (“Southern Cross”) with effect from 31 October.

In total, Care UK has now completed the transfer of 26 homes formerly operated by Southern Cross with a total of approximately 1,500 beds. The 12 additional homes are located in various areas in both England and Scotland and include two learning disabilities homes that will operate within Care UK’s Community Services division. As with the previously transferred homes, Care UK has entered into an assignment with the various landlords of these homes for their remaining respective lease periods, having re-negotiated the key commercial terms of the leases on to a sustainable basis. The focus in achieving the successful transfer of these homes remains the continuity and quality of care for the residents involved.

Care UK is also in the process of finalising the transfer of a small number of additional former Southern Cross homes. A further announcement in relation to these homes will be made in due course.

Change of name & Transfer of former Southern Cross homes

Care UK Health & Social Care Newco Limited, the leading health and social care provider, announces that, with effect from 12 October 2011, it has changed its name to Care UK Health & Social Care Investments Limited.

Care UK also announces that it has completed the transfer of 14 care homes formerly operated by Southern Cross Healthcare Group Plc (“Southern Cross”). The 14 homes are all located in the north-east of England and comprise 840 beds in total.

Care UK has entered into an assignment with the landlord for the remaining lease term for these homes, having re-negotiated certain key terms of the leases on to a sustainable basis. The homes transferred with effect from 14 October 2011. The absolute priority in the successful transfer of these homes is the continuity and quality of care for the residents.

Care UK is also in the process of finalising the transfer of a similar number of additional former Southern Cross homes. A further announcement in relation to these homes will be made in due course.
