Healthcare Regulator and Patients Give Mid Kent NHS Treatment Centre Top Marks
Date: 25/02/2010
The Mid Kent NHS Treatment Centre (MKTC) in Maidstone, run by Care UK on behalf of the NHS, has received confirmation of its reputation for excellence with exemplary reports from the healthcare regulator, and excellent feedback from its patients.
In an unannounced inspection of the Treatment Centre, healthcare regulator the Care Quality Commission (CQC) found that the Centre generally, and its chemotherapy unit in particular, had met all the standards and requirements across safety, clinical and cost-effectiveness, and governance, with no areas of non-compliance.
The CQC inspection report said: “The hospital is providing a service that meets the needs of its patients within a pleasant environment that is clean and well maintained. Systems are in place for risk management and regular audits of clinical practice are undertaken.”
Further confirmation of the Treatment Centre’s reputation comes with another excellent satisfaction survey from its patients, showing that the Mid Kent NHS Treatment Centre has again consistently matched or outperformed the top 20 per cent of all acute NHS trusts in the UK. Key findings of the patient survey results, which represent mean scores (maximum 100), include:
- A score of 97 for patients saying they were always treated with dignity and respect (Top 20% of NHS Trusts, 90)
- A score of 96 for patients always having confidence and trust in nurses (Top 20% of NHS Trusts, 89)
- A score of 95 for patients always having confidence and trust in doctors (Top 20% of NHS Trusts, 91)
- A score of 95 for patients thinking the Treatment Centre was clean (Top 20% of NHS Trusts, 88)
- A score of 96 for patients always given enough privacy (Top 20% of NHS Trusts, 90)
- A score of 92 for patients saying there were enough nurses on duty (Top 20% of NHS Trusts, 77)
Comments from patients included: ‘Everyone was very friendly and put me completely at ease’; ‘The unit was very clean and modern’; ‘If all the hospitals were like this centre it would be perfect’; ‘If I hadn't known any different I would've thought I’d gone private’; ‘Everything was excellent. I can't wait to come back’; ‘All the staff were very attentive, helpful and polite, checked on me regularly’; ‘The nurses and all the staff were without exception everything one would wish for at such a time’; ‘An incredible team’.
Ruth Christie, General Manager at the Mid Kent NHS Treatment Centre, says: “We strive for excellence in all we do here at MKTC. So for the CQC to deliver such an outstanding inspection report, and for patients to be so consistently pleased with the treatment, care and service we provide, is a reward for the hard work and dedication of all our committed team. Of course, the challenge for us is to maintain – and improve upon where possible – the high quality we deliver, and to continue to delight our patients."
