Excellent patient satisfaction results for Barlborough
Date: 02/03/2010
Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre, run by Care UK under contract to the NHS, has received another excellent satisfaction survey from its patients and has again consistently matched or outperformed the top 20 per cent of all acute NHS trusts in the UK.
Key findings of the patient survey results (550 patients were selected from Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre to take part), which represent mean rating scores (maximum 100), include:
- A score of 98 for patients saying they were always treated with dignity and respect (Top 20% of NHS Trusts, 90)
- A score of 96 for patients always having confidence and trust in nurses (Top 20% of NHS Trusts, 89)
- A score of 95 for patients always having confidence and trust in doctors (Top 20% of NHS Trusts, 91)
- A score of 99 for patients thinking the Treatment Centre was clean (Top 20% of NHS Trusts, 88)
Comments from patients included: “Everyone was very friendly. This was my second stay and both times they were lovely. From the cleaning ladies to the top doctors, I cannot fault them in any way and would like to thank them all”; “Clean and organised, well run facility with friendly helpful staff”; “Everything about my care was excellent.”
One patient who enjoyed a positive visit to the Centre is Phillip Smith, 70, of Wickersley, Chesterfield. Now retired after being self-employed during his working life, Phillip had a left hip replacement at Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre in April 2009. Unfortunately, he suffered for 10 years with pain and discomfort, he comments: “I am very grateful to the Centre; they have given me my life back. It’s extremely efficient system run by first class professionals. A very high standard and I really appreciate the treatment. Excellent.”
Phillip hadn’t heard of the Centre previously, it was his GP at his local practice who mentioned it. The GP actually told him that if he was offered Barlborough as an option for his surgery, he should take it. Phillip only had to wait a matter of weeks for his surgery date to be confirmed, his wife then drove him to the Centre and he used the Centre’s transport to return home.
Before the hip replacement, Phillip couldn’t even walk around the corner from his house to the shop, which was only a matter of yards away. He said every journey had to be planned, he and his wife had to think of parking spaces in the town nearest to shops. He said it made, what should have been happy events such as weddings, very difficult. At one point, Phillip considered purchasing a motorised scooter. Following his surgery, Phillip is now enjoying life and is able to do the simple things in life.
Graeme Kendall, Manager at the Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre said: “Once again, patients such as Mr Smith are telling us that they appreciate the quality and level of care they have received at the Centre. My thanks go to our patients for providing such valuable feedback, and to members of staff at Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre who have provided such excellent care and service. Patients can now access treatment here via Choose and Book, and they can get more information about this from their GP.”
The Centre is also holding an OPEN DAY on SUNDAY 21st March 2010 from 10am-4pm. It’s a great opportunity for anyone to come along and meet surgeons, anaesthetists, centre staff and past patients. People will be able to see how welcoming the Centre is and to have a tour around the facility.
