Managing and treating people with orthopaedic conditions is among the most challenging and high profile problems that the health economy faces. Care UK has joined with Alliance Medical to assist GPs, PCTs, orthopaedic departments and specialists to manage their orthopaedic workloads in a fresh new way. As well as saving time and removing possible problems, such an arrangement allows energy and resources to be applied in other directions.
Our orthopaedic services break down broadly into four parts:
Prevention: we identify people who are vulnerable to accidents, provide specialist equipment for use in their own homes and monitor them regularly.
Primary care triage and diagnostics: by combining a GP with special interest (GpwSI) in orthopaedics and a physiotherapist, Care UK can take existing orthopaedic waiting-lists and provide full face-to-face triaging to determine which patients a) need no treatment at all; b) need to be treated by a physio; and c) need to see a specialist. As well as conventional x-ray, the latest cross-sectional mobile MRI and CT scanners can be provided at local premises by Alliance Medical.
Clinical treatment and surgery: Care UK can provide whole surgical team solutions, including consultant level surgeons and anaesthetists as well as specialist nurse and therapist teams. We have experience in using existing facilities in more flexible ways – or for longer-term solutions we will build operating theatres or ward blocks on a permanent or temporary basis.
Enhanced community care: Care UK believes in avoiding the trauma of prolonged hospitalisation. We have therefore developed a range of solutions whereby patients can be cared for either at home or at a specialist residential facility. Our integrated and seamless service can include home assessment by occupational therapists, transport for patients living remotely, IV antibiotic treatment and post-surgical rehabilitation and mobilisation.
We cannot thank Care UK enough for the care, consideration and attention that you had for our daughter. It has made our lives so much happier knowing that she is with such a caring organisation Parent, Newcastle Learning Disabilities Branch
