The Dr Foster Hospitals Guide is published annually to provide an overview of the services available in the UK.
Dr Foster Intelligence collects data about hospitals and healthcare centres in the UK. It was founded on the principal that gathering this data can improve services and ultimately save lives. Every year the organisation publishes its Hospital Guide as an independent assessment of NHS hospitals. This highlights the variation of services within the NHS and offers people access to information upon which they can base make their choices.
Experts working for the guide analysed the outcomes of patients who had received hip operations – they looked at the length of time they had to stay, how likely they were to require second operations and how many people had to be readmitted into hospital. At the end of the process, they concluded that the four hospitals run by Care UK outperformed any other NHS or independent sector provider.
