Bowes House - Daily life

Daily life

Living at Bowes House care home is all about enjoying each day in the way that suits you.

We believe in supporting every resident to enjoy a meaningful lifestyle - encouraging them to do whatever brings them meaning and joy.

Something different each day

Our lifestyle team plans daily group and one-to-one activities designed around residents’ interests and hobbies. Each day is different, with everything from baking and gentle exercise to music, arts and crafts, gardening, games and quizzes.

We appreciate that some people may prefer more tailored time rather than group activities, so there's always time to do whatever activity your loved one would like with them on a one-to-one basis with one of our lifestyle team, from a pamper session to a stroll in the garden, reminiscence or a shopping trip.

During COVID, we’ve done our best to keep life as normal as fulfilling for residents as we can. That’s included adapting activities, such as sports and exercise, so it’s socially distanced and safe, and using home tablets to bring entertainment into the home and stay connected by new means. Of course, when the weather’s good, we’ve also been able to enjoy relaxing and playing games outside in the home’s beautiful garden space.

Some residents enjoy the sense of routine and independence that comes with helping around the home. We help residents continue the activities and hobbies they love – they might enjoy planting in the garden for example, or working alongside the maintenance team on DIY.

Part of the community

Pre-COVID we had set up a group called the Friends of Bowes House and members would come along to use our facilities, including our cinema, hairdressing salon and coffee shop, and they get involved in our social events. During COVID, we’ve been able to continue these relationships as well as build new ones, using technology such as tablets as well as traditional methods to keep in touch with loved ones. We’ve even made some new friends in our wonderful community who have supported us during this time.

In the mood for food

Meals are a highlight at Bowes House and a chance to sit and chat and enjoy generous and delicious meals made from quality ingredients. Our care home's catering team makes a point of sitting with residents on a regular basis to make sure that they’re enjoying the meals and to find out what they’d like more of. Snacks and drinks are available throughout the day for residents.
