Community invited to jive at Bowes House

May 13 2019

Bowes House is inviting the local community to jive to the sound of rock classics from the 1950s.

On Tuesday 21st May, from 2.30pm - 3.30pm, Bowes House is inviting the local community to a 1950s-themed event to mark the 65th anniversary of Rock Around the Clock by Bill Haley and the Comets, widely considered as the world’s first rock ‘n’ roll anthem.

Guests can swing and jive to live entertainment from Vintage Ruby, a local rock ‘n’ roll singer, while the home will be adorned with 1950s memorabilia, giving everyone an opportunity to step back in time.

The nationwide initiative, launched by Care UK, sees care homes across the country get together to host rock ‘n’ roll-themed events. The aim is to encourage residents to reminisce about their younger years and share memories of life in the 1950s.

Helena Barrow, home manager at Bowes House, said: “Here at Bowes House, we feel it is important to build a strong relationship with the local community, so we’re excited to take a trip down memory lane with everyone to mark the 65th anniversary of Rock Around the Clock.

“Our theme is sure to bring back memories, with many residents witnessing the birth of rock ‘n’ roll in the 1950s, so I’m sure many of them will enjoy remembering their younger years, and maybe even teach us a dance move or two.

“We have a fun-filled day of activities planned for the residents, team members and the community, and are looking forward to seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces as they twist and jive.”
