I have managed care homes for 20yrs, and prior to joining the Buchanan Court team, I commissioned a new build, 60 bed residential home specialising in dementia. I have also worked as a Regional Care Director, a Peripatetic Manager, and in substance misuse services – to name just a few. I started as a carer and I have worked my way up.
As a Home Manager, it’s vital to have strong values and that you can articulate these to your team. It’s the key to inspiring the team to be the best they can be and provide great care naturally. It also helps to be very organised, as each day is a juggling act as things change constantly.
I enjoy spending time with residents, families and colleagues and doing whatever I can to support them. I get a huge sense of achievement when I receive positive feedback from people. It shows we’re making a difference to people’s lives.
I’m an experienced nurse and clinical lead, and I decided to join Care UK because it has a great reputation for supporting its colleagues as well as its residents and their families.
I believe it’s vital to be compassionate and caring in this role. It’s also important to provide a good example to the team of how to deliver great care. I love every minute I spend in the home and working with colleagues to provide residents with superb care.
Seeing residents and colleagues happy and contented is the best part of what I do. Everyone works together well here at Buchanan Court. The team have been very welcoming and supportive to me as a ‘newbie’. Our focus is now on achieving an ‘outstanding’ rating from the CQC at our next.
My time with Care UK goes back to 2000! I began as a care assistant but I worked my way up. I’ve actually worked in health or social care all my career – in fact, all my family work in related fields.
At Care UK I’ve helped to refurbish a care home, I’ve held a Dining for Dementia auction for charity – there are always opportunities to get involved that you could never predict. I work with a great team here at Buchanan Court and I’m really enjoying supporting them, as well as the families who come to us looking for great care.
I was working in accounting before I moved to Buchanan Court in 2017. I really wanted to work with older people, supporting them and their families, and to develop my skills in a large organisation. Care UK is a very good company to work for, and rewards dedication and talent.
There’s always something happening at Buchanan Court: no two days are the same. I joined the home and the team when it was brand new, which was exciting and challenging in equal measure! It’s interesting and rewarding to see the home develop and to see residents truly settling in and making the home their own. It’s lovely to see. Buchanan Court is a happy home, and I’m very proud to work here, using my skills to support families and older people.
I joined the Buchanan Court team in March 2019 because Care UK is known for the great care it offers and how it supports its colleagues to progress professionally. I was actually working as a Casino Manager before I worked here, but I have also worked in housekeeping in roles prior to that.
It’s been a huge boost for me to reach management level and to be overseeing a team, and I love the time I get to spend interacting with residents. Doing whatever I can to help them gives me huge pleasure. It’s wonderful to see them happy and I’m looking forward to seeing them blossom further, and developing great relationships with them.
Before joining Care UK in 2018 I spent ten years working in the UK and overseas in different nursing roles, including in cardiac and orthopaedic settings. A friend of mine who worked for Care UK recommended the organisation for its commitment to quality care, and for how it supports colleagues to develop and progress.
What’s special about working in a care home as opposed to a hospital setting is the opportunity to truly get to know the people you’re caring for. I’m also passionate about supporting the team, and growing their confidence so they provide the best service.
Buchanan Court is full of energy and the teamwork here is outstanding. I’m so proud of how colleagues treat residents with the utmost respect and dignity, and involve them in outings, activities and special celebrations. I’m proud to be part of the Buchanan Court family.
I’m passionate about cooking delicious food that will put a smile on residents’ faces, and that’s why I joined Care UK. It’s a leading care company in the UK and passionate about supporting older people.
I’m an experienced care sector catering manager and have achieved an outstanding five star rating from the CQC for all of the organisations that I’ve worked in. I’m committed to delivering excellent service and love getting feedback from residents. If they have enjoyed what we’ve created, I’m happy.
I started working at Care UK in late 2017. My background is in building: I’ve worked on some of the biggest building projects in the UK, including the 02 Arena. I’ve also previously worked for another big care provider where I managed a maintenance team. I joined Care UK because I’d heard a lot of good things about the organisation before joining about its high standard of care and professionalism.
In this role you need to care about your job and the residents in the home. I enjoy making sure residents are safe and happy and I enjoy the interactions with residents – putting a smile on their face. Every day is a blessing, and we all need to smile. After all, a happy home is a good home.
I joined Care UK because it’s a national leader in the care sector and an organisation that’s passionate about delivering the best of care. It uses the latest thinking and the best resources to provide superb care.
I love spending time with residents, having a chat with them one-to-one, getting to know them and seeing them engaged in activities they enjoy. I love baking and cooking and going on trips myself, and these are things I enjoy doing with the residents here. There’s so much the people we care for can still do and give – my aim is to help them to do that and enjoy a meaningful life.
I was the first resident at Buchanan Court – I moved in on 28th November 2017. I enjoy helping others, and, during my working life, I’ve had roles where I focused on customers’ needs. I’ve worked in pubs and management roles, so when I was approached to be home ambassador at Buchanan Court, it was another opportunity to help people.
As home ambassador, I’m the voice of the home’s residents, so I listen and talk to other residents and help them in any way I can. I chair the regular residents’ and relatives’ meetings, and I run the shop here in the home.
I enjoy socialising with my family and friends, who visit me throughout the week. We sit and chat in the coffee shop or in the cinema room. I’m also an active member of the Friends of Buchanan group.
