Before joining the team at Carpathia Grange, I worked as a Registered Manager in two West Berkshire Council care homes. Care UK has a superb reputation in the care sector, and I was keen to work for a private provider that’s leading the way in social care.
I believe that a Home Manager’s role is to empower their team to do their best work. I think it’s vital to have empathy and a passion for enhancing residents’ care and wellbeing.
I love my daily walks around the home. It’s my chance to see how everything is going, to chat to colleagues and see what they need, and to find out how residents are. When I see residents happy and enjoying life, I know we’re doing our jobs properly.
The best homes have great teams, where everyone understands what great care looks like and is working together to achieve that. I’m looking forward to developing the Carpathia Grange team, supporting each colleague to progress and fulfil their potential so that they are happy and delivering superb care to residents. I know we can achieve an ‘outstanding’ CQC rating – that’s my goal.
I have a diploma in Adult Nursing and I’ve worked as a home manager for a care centre, so I’m no stranger to care homes. I enjoy working as a CRM because I can be instrumental to getting a new home off to a great start. I also thoroughly enjoy supporting families at a time when they are under a lot of pressure to find the best home for a loved one. I do all I can to make things as easy as possible for them.
The best part of the day for me is coming into a home and greeting the residents. I’ll get them a coffee and make one for myself too, and we’ll have a chat. They’re always so friendly and happy to see me, that it makes my day.
I’m looking forward to getting to know new residents as they join us, and working with the great team here. Another ‘plus’ of my role is getting to know the local community in Hythe so we can develop creative ways of involving local people, groups and schools in the life of the home, and helping residents to maintain their connections with the local community.
Supporting a new care home to open its doors and run smoothly is a challenge I couldn’t resist – I used to be an Administration Assistant in another new build care home.
I think communication is key in my role. You need to be able to communicate effectively with everyone from residents and their families, to colleagues and members of the community. My favourite part of the day has to be any opportunity I get to talk to residents and their families and find out more about them.
I’m very excited to be part of the fantastic team at Carpathia Grange. We’ve created a wonderful home for residents to live in, and a great place to work for colleagues. We also love being an integral part of the Hythe community.
My background is in the Armed Forces (the Royal Navy), and I’m also an experienced care home Head Chef. I’ve also cooked for celebrities and pop stars! I wanted to work for a Care UK care home because the organisation has a great reputation for its innovative and ambitious approach to care home food and dining.
I always make time for residents as it’s vital to learn about their likes and dislikes, and to develop a rapport with them. I enjoy getting in early and setting up for the day ahead, and I take huge pride in creating tasty dishes that residents love.
I’m enjoying being a part of a great care home team. Everyone at Carpathia Grange is focused on providing the best care – my team included. When you see happy, smiling residents and relatives you know you’ve done your job well.
I’m an experienced care home Head Housekeeper, and I joined Carpathia Grange in July 2019 because I wanted the challenge and opportunities that come with working in a new build care home. I’d also heard good things about Care UK.
As a Head Housekeeper, I think it’s vital to have an eye for detail and a passion to achieve the highest standards possible for residents. It’s often when you take care of the small details that you make a big difference to a person.
I'm also the Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) Champion for Carpathia Grange. It's my job to establish and maintain a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness so that residents, colleagues and visitors keep safe.
I love spending time chatting to the residents. Where I can, I support them to get involved in everyday tasks as this is a great way to feel a sense of purpose. There’s plenty to keep us busy as we welcome new residents, get to know them and help them to settle in to our Southampton care home.
While my background is in the Armed Forces and the construction sector, I’m no stranger to this sort of role – my previous job was in care home maintenance. I like how this role calls on all sorts of skills. As well as needing good communication and practical skills, having empathy and a good sense of humour is vital too.
I enjoy meeting new people and chatting with residents, relatives and my own team members, developing my skills, and ensuring that all the fixtures and fittings in our beautiful care home are working as they should.
When I’m not at Carpathia Grange, you can find me sea fishing, riding motorbikes or socialising with family and friends.
