This is my second role with Care UK – I’ve worked in one of its London homes too. I’ve spent seven years as a Deputy Manager in two big care providers, but it was wonderful to rejoin Care UK as Home Manager at Catherine Court.
This is an extremely varied role and it demands very good communication skills. While there’s a lot of desk time involved, I love getting out into the home as often as I can and sitting with residents – and even taking part in activities.
Spending time with residents supporting them to enjoy a meaningful lifestyle brings me comfort. Knowing that they are safe, happy and comfortable is all-important for me.
Outside of work, I’m a full-time mother to my two daughters. I don’t get much time for anything else!
I’ve worked at Catherine Court since September 2013 – I wanted to make a difference to people’s lives. Every part of the day is special to me, from coming in first thing and making tea, to help with breakfast, and being with residents and their families throughout the day.
What’s fantastic about my role is that I get to see the difference that I make to residents and their families. I’ve arranged a big birthday party for a resident who turned 100. All the residents and their families came along to celebrate. It was definitely a career highlight for me.
Away from work I enjoy reading and walking. I also love to cook and entertain friends and family.
I joined Catherine Court in 2017. I was a senior chef before I moved to work here. I love cooking for the residents, trying new recipes and discovering what residents like. A passion for food and for residents’ wellbeing is crucial in my job – it also helps to be organised as there’s a lot to coordinate each day.
Being a head chef in a care home is very different to working in the hospitality industry as residents have different nutritional needs, which we need to cater for. Food and drink are central to residents’ health and wellbeing and I’m proud of how we adapt menus and dishes to cater for people’s different needs.
I joined Care UK in 2016 after a friend, who worked for the company, recommended it to me. Before working here, I was a Legal Adviser back in Romania.
I joined Catherine Court as a Receptionist and I then did an NVQ level 2 in Social Care to learn more about the care sector. It was a highlight for me to progress into the Business Administrator role because it was recognition of my commitment to the home. This role also makes the most of my organisational and people skills.
I enjoy every day in this role because I love working with residents and their families and my colleagues in the home. It’s a fantastic feeling to be able to help people and make them happy.
