I’ve worked at Catherine Court since September 2013 – I wanted to make a difference to people’s lives. Every part of the day is special to me, from coming in first thing and making tea, to help with breakfast, and being with residents and their families throughout the day.
What’s fantastic about my role is that I get to see the difference that I make to residents and their families. I’ve arranged a big birthday party for a resident who turned 100. All the residents and their families came along to celebrate. It was definitely a career highlight for me.
Away from work I enjoy reading and walking. I also love to cook and entertain friends and family.
I joined Catherine Court in 2017. I was a senior chef before I moved to work here. I love cooking for the residents, trying new recipes and discovering what residents like. A passion for food and for residents’ wellbeing is crucial in my job – it also helps to be organised as there’s a lot to coordinate each day.
Being a head chef in a care home is very different to working in the hospitality industry as residents have different nutritional needs, which we need to cater for. Food and drink are central to residents’ health and wellbeing and I’m proud of how we adapt menus and dishes to cater for people’s different needs.
