The Chandler Court team takes a personalised approach so that residents living with dementia can enjoy fulfilling experiences every day.
At Chandler Court, we tailor every aspect of a resident’s care and lifestyle to suit their interests, needs and preferences – it’s how we help people to live well with dementia. Residents enjoy the best in food and dining, luxury facilities and enjoyable activities, and they choose how they spend each day.
Each resident who is living with dementia is supported by a committed and passionate team. Our colleagues receive the latest dementia training and are supported by dementia champions – team members with advanced knowledge of the condition, who provide additional advice and support to relatives and colleagues.
Supporting residents living with dementia to enjoy each day
We organise all manner of small group and one-to-one activities tailored to your loved one’s interests, ranging from exercise sessions to outings and animal therapy. The therapeutic benefits of stroking and cuddling friendly animals are widely known, and residents love caring for our rabbits and meeting furry and feathered visitors.
Musical entertainment and music therapy are popular too, helping people with dementia to tap into memories and reduce their anxiety. We also have a Tovertafel, or magic table, which uses the latest technology to enable residents with dementia to play fun interactive games. Using the table has enhanced residents’ concentration and communication skills, as well as their mood and mobility.
Some residents enjoy doing routine tasks around the home, such as folding laundry or helping in the garden, which provide a sense of purpose. Our newly-opened dementia care suite also has a variety of themed areas for residents to explore independently, including a DIY workbench, a sewing area and a fully functioning kitchen.
We enable residents to dine with dignity
Dementia can alter a person’s appetite, tastes and body clock, putting them at risk of malnutrition. Our chef-led kitchen team is passionate about supporting residents to dine with dignity. They learn about your loved one’s favourite dishes and make sure they’re included on the menu, and they cater for a range of dietary needs.
We use bespoke dementia-friendly crockery and cutlery and show residents plated meals so they can make an informed choice about what they want. Mealtimes are a relaxed affair: colleagues sit and chat with residents to encourage them to eat, and residents are welcome to eat wherever they wish.
A focus on family and community
Chandler Court has forged some wonderful relationships with people of all ages in the local community. Residents and nursery children get together once a week and recently enjoyed a teddy bears’ picnic as well as the ‘graduation’ of the children starting school. The home also sponsors Age UK’s local ‘Men in Sheds’ initiative, which provides a support network for older men. The group visits Chandler Court to chat to the male residents, and has made a beautiful garden bench for us.
We also hold regular free information sessions on a range of care topics. Whether you’re a relative, or are caring yourself for a loved one living with dementia, you’re welcome to come along. Click on the link below to see what’s coming up.
