I qualified as a nurse in 1987 and worked in the NHS before moving into older people’s care. As well as managing care homes, I’ve overseen the provision of clinical care for other leading providers.
I first started working for Care UK in 2013 as Deputy Manager at Priors House in Leamington Spa. I've supported various homes in a management capacity including Scarlet House and Highmarket House. I enjoy working for Care UK because it strives to guarantee quality of life for residents at all stages of their care journey. The organisation also values its employees, which is crucial.
I love seeing happy residents, relatives and motivated colleagues who are excited about the work they’re doing. Energy and passion are key to what we do: if you put in 100% you get 120% back from colleagues and residents!
What do I do outside work? A lot of housework – I have a ‘thing’ about cleanliness (well, I am a trained nurse!). I do love a sunny holiday, and my grandchildren are one of my life’s passions too.
I have many years’ experience in care home management, and when this role at Chandler Court came up, it was an exciting opportunity to be part of a brand new home within a company that is committed to providing excellent care.
I love meeting people and building relationships with the residents I help to care for, and their loved ones. It’s a good feeling knowing that you’ve made a positive difference to someone’s day.
I have two young sons who keep me busy outside of work. I love spending time outdoors, camping, playing with the boys and with our Labrador. I also like to unwind by watching a little bit of reality TV!
I’m an experienced CRM in the care sector, but I wanted to work at Care UK because it has a great reputation. Chandler Court also seemed to be a quality care home and a great place to work. I joined in March 2018.
I’m still ‘learning the ropes’ here but I’m enjoying all aspects of my role. Each day is different, which I love. I’m looking forward to getting to know my colleagues better and to meeting the many interesting people who come through our door. It’s my role to make them feel welcome at Chandler Court.
In my free time I like playing golf, travelling, dressmaking, DIY, painting (pictures as well as walls!) and I’m also learning Spanish.
I’m an experienced activities manager/coordinator and I used to work in schools and after school clubs. It was quite a change to move from such a different environment into a care home setting, but I’m so pleased I did. I get a huge buzz out of seeing residents enjoying themselves, and enabling them to live life to the full.
I love doing crafts in my spare time, and it’s great to be able to bring those skills into work to help residents to learn new things and to give them an enjoyable, meaningful task to do. I love having the chance to make a difference to residents’ lives – and I’m looking forward to doing more of the same!
I’ve worked for Care UK since 2013. Before joining the company I was a support worker in the community. I would give emotional and practical support to people living with dementia, as well as people living with addictions and mental health challenges.
It was quite a challenge to change career path, but the company is very supportive. It was a huge highlight to be offered this role, and to be recognised for my customer relationship skills. I’m really enjoying getting to know my colleagues, the residents themselves as well as their families.
But what I enjoy most about working here is being able to make residents smile. That makes my day – it’s what delivering great care is all about.
I’ve worked as a chef in the care home sector for a long time and have even won awards for what I do. I love cooking for people and being able to make a difference to an older person’s day. The residents appreciate the little touches – the way food is presented and served. It’s great to get their instant feedback.
Being part of a team launching a brand new care home is both challenging and exciting at the same time! We need to make sure we get things right from the start, so the pressure’s on, but the rewards are just as great.
Away from work I love to travel: I’ve a long list of places I want to see. I also enjoy spending time with family, including my two grandchildren. And, of course, I enjoy cooking – particularly finding new recipes to try.
