We get to know your loved one – their life history, tastes and preferences, as well as their wishes for the future.
Delivering care and activities that your loved one will enjoy is only possible when we understand what makes them 'tick' - so when they move to Cheviot Court, we'll get to know all about them. We put everything we learn into a life story book, which forms the basis of their care and lifestyle plans.
Activities for everyone
We organise regular activities all designed around residents’ interests. These range from bowling to tai chi, arts and crafts to knitting, pamper sessions to visits from local entertainers. We regular update our lifestyle programmes to keep things fresh and interesting.
Keeping busy and independent is key to wellbeing in later life, so your loved one is welcome to help around the home doing light tasks that bring them a sense of purpose. That might mean dusting their room, making their bed or simply making a cup of tea - what's important is that they are happy and fulfilled and feel useful.
A home that’s part of the community
Feeling connected to local life is also important too. Cheviot Court has a strong sense of community. We hold regular events, when we open our doors to local people, as well as residents' families. Some residents go along to social groups and coffee mornings in South Shields, and children regularly visit us to do performances or chat to residents. We also look forward to the visits from different types therapy animals - we've even had a petting zoo pay us a visit, with large creepy crawlies and reptiles.
Out and about
Outings are a regular part of living at Cheviot Court, with theatre and shopping trips and outings to the National Glass Centre in Sunderland, or the seaside. If your loved one has a suggestion for a new activity or outing, we’ll ensure we make it happen.
Mealtimes at our South Shields care home always involve great food and good company, but it’s also great to have a change of scene every so often with a meal out. We often go out for lunch at a nearby pub and we have cream teas at nearby Hill Head Farm.
