I started my career as a care assistant and I joined Care UK in 2006. Since then I’ve worked hard and moved up the ladder to become home manager. I was the deputy manager at Broadwater Lodge, another Care UK home, for seven years before moving to Kingsleigh and was part of the team when it was rated ‘outstanding’ by the CQC. I’m very proud of Kingleigh’s latest CQC report – ‘good’ overall, with a ‘good’ rating for all five areas inspected
I’m a real people person with a passion for helping others. So it’s probably no surprise if I say that my favourite part of the day is ‘tea at 3’. This is when all team members down tools to have a cup of tea and a catch up with residents. We have some lovely conversations.
I’ve worked my way up the ranks, and I want to help other colleagues to do the same. I’m looking forward to being able to develop others in their roles and empower them to make a difference in residents’ lives.
I joined Care UK because I’d heard that its homes had a family atmosphere, and that really appealed to me. My first role was at Broadwater Lodge in Farncombe. I started there in 2011 as a team leader, and I moved to Kingsleigh in 2018.
Every day is different here, which makes my job interesting. I love engaging with the residents and their families, and I like lending a hand wherever I’m needed in the home. I’m proud of the ‘good’ rating that we recently received from the CQC, and I enjoy supporting the Kingsleigh team to do their best work and deliver superb care to residents. There really is a lovely atmosphere here – whoever I spoke to all those years ago was right! We have happy residents and an amazing, enthusiastic colleague team. It’s a joy to work here.
My career with Care UK began in late 2016 when I joined as a care assistant. However, when this role came up, I thought I’d try for it – and here I am. From the first time I visited Kingsleigh I was made to feel so welcome. I knew that this was the place for me.
My background is in hospitality: I’ve managed pubs and planned events, so I’m a naturally friendly person who has a smile for everyone. I love any time I can spend with the residents, particularly in the late afternoon when there’s time to have a cup of tea with them and hear more about their lives, their families, and the things they’d still like to do. What I enjoy the most is making residents’ wishes come true – no matter how big or small the wish is.
I joined Care UK back in 2001 when I was made redundant from working as a team leader in a distribution centre. I’d worked there for 24 years, so it was a big thing to move sectors and roles. There were a lot of systems and ways of working that I had to learn!
Probably the best thing about this role is seeing the residents every day. Having been at Kingsleigh a while, I’ve got to know lots of lovely people (residents, relatives and colleagues) and it’s a privilege to be able to help and support them.
Coming to work feels like coming home. Kingsleigh is a lovely environment and there’s a very homely atmosphere. The residents and colleagues are just like one big family.
