I have previously worked for Care UK in the community services division, so I was aware of the company visions and felt that they reflect a lot of my own professional ideas. I am qualified in leadership and management training as well as health and social care, and my previous experience managing care homes and working as a service branch manager for a domiciliary company has prepared me to be a good match as home manager for Mill View. You need to be a ‘Jack of all trades’ as the role is very varied and often requires quick problem solving skills. I am able to put myself in the shoes of a resident or relative and respond appropriately.
Without a doubt my favourite part of my working day is interacting with the residents, watching them partake in activities and seeing the enjoyment in their faces. Mill View is a lovely home with a great team who are all very supportive of one another.
When I’m not working I enjoy taking my dog, Gracie, for her much anticipated walks in the countryside. I also enjoy spending time with my grandson and watching him grow up.
I’ve worked in care for nearly two decades. I started out as a care assistant, but have been in management roles for nearly ten years. I joined Mill View because I was keen to find a new challenge. I’d been hearing a lot about the company and I liked the look and feel of Mill View when I first looked around.
In my role it’s important to listen and support your team, residents and family members. You need to be proactive and think outside the box. I enjoy helping the team to progress in their careers while ensuring that they’re delivering the best quality care. Above all, I believe that Mill View is going great things and has huge potential thanks to our brilliant, hard-working team.
I used to be a sales executive for a large corporate insurance company but I moved to Care UK because they really care about their residents. They have beautiful care homes and passionate teams and the wellbeing of residents is at the heart of everything they do.
It really matters to me that I believe my role is making a difference to someone’s life, and I have that satisfaction in my role here at Mill View. I love showing our beautiful home to members of the community and prospective residents and their families, knowing that our team can help them.
Before working at Mill View I organised holidays for blind people. While it was hard work, the sense of achievement of bringing joy to people was a huge highlight. I get that same sense of achievement in my role here – making residents smile is what I look forward to the most. I love spending time chatting to residents, helping them in whatever way I can.
Outside of work I make and sell my own handmade jewellery. I’m also very involved with my church community.
