A Christmas Carol - local pupils bring joy to Poole care home residents

December 20th 2019

Residents at The Potteries and children from Hillbourne Primary SchoolResidents at care home in Poole were delighted when local children popped by for a special, festive performance.

The Potteries care home, on York Road, welcomed children from Hillbourne Primary School for an afternoon of carol singing to get residents into the Christmas spirit.

Pupils sang a variety of classic Christmas songs, including Silent Night and O Come, All Ye Faithful, which had residents enjoying the festive performance as they sang along.

Zita Turner, home manager at The Potteries, said: “We loved welcoming pupils from Hillbourne Primary School to The Potteries for an afternoon of carol singing.

“Music can be very therapeutic for older people – especially those living with dementia – by offering them a way to communicate and express themselves, while also triggering happy memories from their younger years.

“Forming intergenerational relationships can also be incredibly importantl for older people, particularly around Christmas time, as it provides a fantastic opportunity to spread some festive magic and bring back fond memories of Christmases past.

“Everyone had a fantastic afternoon and we look forward to welcoming Hillbourne Primary School pupils back to The Potteries very soon!”
