A recent open day at Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre near Chesterfield was a huge success, attracting 400 visitors who were treated to free health checks, information packs and tours of the operating theatres, patient wards, x-ray department and physiotherapy gym.
During the event, people from surrounding towns and villages including Alfreton, Chesterfield, Clowne, Eckington, Mosborough, Sutton-in-Ashfield and Worksop, took the opportunity to meet the team and find out what NHS patients can expect if they choose to visit the centre for surgery.
The Care UK-run treatment centre specialises in orthopaedic care and has treated nearly 30,000 patients needing hip or knee replacements, cruciate ligament reconstruction and foot, hand, shoulder and spinal procedures.
Martin Page, hospital director at Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre, said: “It was pleasing to see so many visitors at our open day and I’m very proud of the team for making it such a success. Some visitors were unaware they have a choice of where they can receive treatment so it was great to be able to explain what we do and how quickly we can offer appointments.
“Of our 400 visitors, 230 took part in the theatre tour and 137 had a free health assessment. We also handed out 250 information packs and received lots of positive comments from visitors who were very impressed with the cleanliness of the hospital and friendliness of our team.”
The successful open day follows positive results in a new national hospital environment inspection initiative. The results, published last month, showed that Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre scored 99 percent for cleanliness, 89 percent for food and hydration, 92 percent for privacy, dignity and wellbeing and 91 percent for condition, appearance and maintenance.
The new assessment – Patient-Led Assessment of Care Environment (PLACE) – puts patients at the heart of the process and the patient assessors – specially trained representatives from the local area who can look at the assessment from the patients’ perspective – have access to all areas including wards, pre-admission, treatment rooms and the outpatients department.
Martin added: “The team takes patient feedback very seriously and welcomes what PLACE is trying to achieve. I’m delighted that the assessors’ report reflects how hard we work to provide patients with a first-class experience, particularly our focus on cleanliness, which has resulted in the centre having no cases of MRSA or other hospital acquired infections.”
