Bird is the word! Copthorne care home residents spread their wings to celebrate the best of British birds

January 22nd 2020

Care UK homes take part in a celebration of British birds_1Residents at a care home in Copthorne are gearing up to take part in some avian-themed activities this January.

Inspired by the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch, which takes place from Saturday 25th to Monday 27th January, residents will be taking part in a variety of activities related to our feathered friends, as well as topping up their bird feeders and counting the species in their garden.

Alongside Care UK homes across the country, Francis Court, on Borers Arms Road, will be celebrating the best of British birds by taking part in taking part in birdwatching.

The home has collated a list of birds commonly found in Britain and will be partaking in birdwatching to count how many visit their garden.

Anna Allen, home manager at Francis Court, explained why discovering our local wildlife is so important: “Residents love taking part in nature-themed activities and learning more about the beautiful environment we live in.

“Spending time outdoors and connecting with the nature around us can prove to be beneficial for both the physical and mental wellbeing of older people – particularly those living with dementia. While it is a calming, peaceful activity, the distinctive sounds and vibrant colours of the garden are also great for providing sensory stimulation.

“It’s brilliant to be getting involved with such a meaningful initiative and encouraging everyone to take notice of the beautiful wildlife Britain has to offer.
