Birdwatch a flying success at Francis Court

February 12th 2018

Francis Court had bird-feeders filled and binoculars at the ready when it took part in this year’s RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch, with the help of some special guests.

Residents participated in the annual wildlife survey, and recorded the number of birds, as well as other wildlife species, they spotted in their garden.

The home was joined by the Huxley Birds of Prey Centre, so residents had the opportunity to get up close and personal with owls and falcons.

Mary Ballesteros, home manager at Francis Court said: “The birdwatch is a popular activity with our residents every year, so we were delighted to welcome Huxley Birds to join us for the big event. All of the residents enjoyed taking part, learning more about the wildlife in our garden and interacting with some new feathered friends.

“Outdoor activities are important for both physical and mental wellbeing, and have many benefits for older people, particularly for those who are living with dementia. Birdwatching can act as a valuable reminiscence activity, as the distinctive sights and sounds of birds in the garden can help evoke memories. This year was another success, and we’d like to thank Huxley Birds for joining us.”
