Bookish Smyth Lodge helps forge community bond

August 2nd 2019

Smyth Lodge in Sidcup has donated £250 to support a local group for older people in the area.

The Care UK team at Smyth Lodge, on Frognal Avenue, partnered up with the University of the Third Age, a group of retired and semi-retired people who come together to continue their educational, social and creative activities, to forge a bond between the home and the community.

The home donated £250 to the group, which has now been used to buy book vouchers. The partnership has been further cemented with the founding of a book club between the group and the residents living in the home.

Since opening in February 2019, Smyth Lodge has been keen to build connections with the local community, and residents and visitors alike have commented on how beneficial the book club has been.

Speaking about the donation, Smyth Lodge home manager, Lorraine Eastmead, said: “The local community is an important part of life here at Smyth Lodge, so we wanted to take this opportunity to show our support to this fantastic club.

“The book club has proved very popular, and is a highlight of many residents’ week. The values of the University of the Third Age chime with our desire to make meaningful activities an essential part of care, so residents can live each day in the way they want – so we’re delighted to have formed this fantastic partnership.”
