Broadwater Lodge is celebrating having been named the Best Individual Care Home in a national care award.

Broadwater Lodge was named as the Best Individual Care Home at the Care Home Awards, held in London on Thursday 25th June.

The Care Home Awards recognise and reward excellence and innovation for UK care home management, operation and delivery.

Broadwater Lodge secured its second national award win this year thanks to the considered approach within the home, and the enthusiasm of its kind and caring team members. Judges were impressed with the innovation shown throughout the home by team members, as well as the home’s ‘Outstanding’ CQC rating. 

Additionally, judges praised the many meaningful activities that take place at Broadwater Lodge, and the continuous development of the home. Most recently, the team created a ‘pet corner’, where relatives and team members can bring their pets in for residents to spend time with, and opened a pub within the home, The Stumbling Inn.

Similarly, after a resident expressed that she would like to keep chickens, the team members at the home helped build a chicken coup and bought four pet chickens, and residents now enjoy looking after their new feathered friends. 

The home itself has been created to encourage residents to build relationships with others at the home. Each suite has its own lounge and dining area, helping to create a ‘community within a community’ feeling. Additionally, every resident at the home has an individual life history book which gives team members insight into their past and present life.
