Care home brings colour to residents wedding photo from 63 years ago

January 25th 2021

A Maidstone resident was thrilled when a team member at her care home had her wedding photograph edited into colour as a surprise.

Becky Lyons, a Lifestyle Coordinator at Care UK’s Invicta Court, on Gidd’s Pond Way, surprised resident June Willis by having her favourite photograph from her wedding day transformed from black and white into colour.

Invicta Court, wedding photo in colourWhile sharing memories of her wedding day 63 years ago with Becky, June mentioned that it was a shame that all her photographs from such a special day in her life were in black and white. Understanding just how important this wish was to June, Becky got in touch with a photograph editing company who specialise in colourising old photographs and arranged for June’s wedding photograph to be retouched.

June was delighted when she saw the results, and now keeps the photograph on her wall so she can look at it every day.

A friend of the home mentioned this to a local author, Adrian Webster, and the sweet gesture stuck with him. He decided to include the story in his upcoming book ‘Tiny Noticeable Things’, which focuses on little acts of kindness that make a big difference to people’s lives.

June said: ‘’I was delighted with it and I am very pleased it’s going to be included in the new book.”

Jacqui Pompeus, Home Manager at Invicta Court, said: “June was thrilled when she saw the photograph for the first time and it was a pleasure to be able to make her wish come true.

“Here at Invicta Court, our team go above and beyond to ensure residents live active and fulfilled lives and this often includes making wishes come true. We’re excited that Becky’s lovely gesture and June’s new and improved photograph will be featured in an upcoming book – we can’t wait to read all about it.”

The new care home offers a full range of older people’s care services in hotel-style surroundings, including a café, hair and beauty salon, bar and cinema. The highly trained, professional team delivers permanent and short-term nursing and residential care, as well as specialist dementia care.
