Care UK gets baking and brewing for the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning

Company news

Fundraising events don’t come more enticing than eating cake and enjoying a tea or coffee and a chat with friends.

This Friday, 25 September, a range of Care UK’s homes and day clubs, as well as support teams, will be hosting their own coffee mornings to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Mildenhall Club on St. John’s Close in Mildenhall will be opening its doors from 10.30am until noon, and Ann Pitcher, the club’s manager, said: “Macmillan’s Coffee Morning is a flagship fundraising event each year and we’re really looking forward to taking part.

“Our chef will be baking some delicious cakes for the event and colleagues, club members and their relatives are welcome to bring in their favourite sweet treats to share. Everyone’s welcome to pop in and help us raise as much as we can for Macmillan.”

Other Care UK homes planning to do their bit include The Burroughs in West Drayton, Middlesex, the brand new Abney Court care home in Cheadle, Brook Court in Kidderminster, Colne View in Halstead, Essex, Francis Court in Copthorne, West Sussex, and Priors House in Leamington Spa. As well as asking for a donation for tea and cake, many of the homes and clubs will also be running raffles and games to raise as much as they can for the charity.

Heather View in Crowborough is also hosting its own event and Trish Banks, manager at the home, said: “The Macmillan Coffee Morning is a great opportunity to raise funds for a very important cause, but it’s also a lovely excuse to bring people together for a fun, social event. We’re looking forward to opening our doors on Friday and welcoming the local community, family and friends along to Heather View for a cuppa, a slice of cake and a chat.”

Colleagues in Care UK's Colchester support office will also be downing tools and picking up mugs and cake plates on the day, and many members of staff have been getting creative and baking cakes and biscuits for the day.

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s largest fundraising event for people facing cancer. Last year this single initiative raised an amazing £25 million for the charity, with people from all over the UK hosting coffee mornings and making donations to Macmillan.
