Cheltenham care home invites people to discover the ‘story of you’

May 12th 2015

People in Cheltenham are invited to delve into the past and find out more about their ancestry on Thursday 14 May, when Sandfields joins forces with the Gloucestershire Family History Society to host a free ‘story of you’ event.

From 2pm to 5pm, Sue Stafford from the Gloucestershire Family History Society will be at Sandfields to offer visitors guidance on how to go about researching their family history.  As well as passing on tips on the best places to look for information, Sue will also be on hand to answer any questions visitors may have about their quest to trace their own lineage.

Ruth Baggs, home manager, said: “For anyone who’s ever wondered how to go about tracing their ancestry and wants to uncover the story of their own family’s past, this is set to be an informative and inspiring event.

“The Gloucestershire Family History Society is an established and well-respected group in the community and we look forward to working with Sue Stafford and the team to help local people build a picture of their family tree.  This can then be passed onto future generations, ensuring this treasured information is not lost over time.”

Following the ‘story of you’ talk, attendees will also have the opportunity to gather advice from the experts on planning for the future, with Phillipa Bruce-Kerr, from Harrison Clark Rickerbys solicitors on hand to discuss wills and power of attorney.

Ruth continued: “As well as looking to the past and helping people in Cheltenham to document their family history, we also understand that people need to look forward and put plans in place for the future.  This can of course be a very daunting prospect, which is why we will be opening up access to professional advice and support after the ‘story of you’ talk.  All are welcome and we hope local people will join us for what promises to be an informative and interesting afternoon.”
