The halls at Care UK’s Pinetum nursing home are not only being decked, but filled with song, as the residents and team practice for their many Christmas events.
On Wednesday, the home was visited by Eva Long Productions to present a Christmas show for the home’s residents. Activities Coordinator Adele Elliott said: “The residents love these shows. They are full of colourful costumes and songs that they can all join in.
“Some of our residents went to see the rock ‘n’ roll production of Dick Whittington at the Clwyd Theatre, but not everyone was able to go, so with this show, everyone can be included in the great traditions of the Christmas panto.”
On Wednesday 19th December, Adele and her colleagues will be holding their own carol concert in the Liverpool Road home with lots of mince pies and mulled wine.
Adele said: “We will be singing all the favourite Christmas songs and carols. Not only is it fun and guaranteed to get everyone in the Christmas spirit but, for people with dementia, it unlocks many memories from other Christmases.”
Finally, on Friday 21st December, the home celebrates Christmas with its annual party for residents, friends and family. Adele said: “It is always a lovely party and this year we will be joined by the residents’ favourite entertainer Geoff Owen.
“Geoff is the king of the costume change and this year, as well as wearing his Christmas outfit, we have been promised an appearance by the King himself, Elvis Presley.
“Geoff takes requests and always carries a spare microphone so that residents and guests can come up on stage and take part. I can’t think of a better way to finish off our Christmas activities.”
