Construction milestone celebrated at Cheadle care home

Home news

Care UK has moved a step closer to delivering a new £9.4 million care home in Cheadle with a topping out ceremony held on site to mark the latest construction milestone.

Representatives from Stockport Council and construction partner GB Building Solutions joined forces with Care UK to place the final capping on the flat roof of the home situated within Abney Park, which when complete will offer places for 80 people.

Part way through the 62-week construction programme, the new development, named Abney Court, is on track to create up to 100 jobs and will welcome its first residents in early 2015.

Justin Daley, construction project manager at Care UK, said: “The new care home, which is currently under construction, represents a major investment for Care UK and when complete it will boost the provision of quality residential care for older people living in the area.

“We take great pride in the quality, layout and design of each care home because these have proven to be very important factors which can enhance people’s everyday experiences.

“As work continues apace in Cheadle, our vision for the home is well on the way to being realised. We wanted to take the opportunity to acknowledge progress and celebrate the topping out with GB Building Solutions and Stockport Council.”

Martin Smout, executive chairman of GB Building Solutions, said: “Our team fully understands the importance of sensitive design to create a quality home that will meet the needs of both employees and residents. We pride ourselves on our approach to the design, development and building of healthcare facilities, and work closely with care providers in the public and independent sectors to deliver homes that will make a real difference to the quality of services on offer.

“The topping out marks an important milestone for this development and we are currently on track for completion in early 2015.”

Cllr Paul Porgess, Councillor for Cheadle North, said: “With an ageing UK population it is incredibly important that the care requirements of older people remain high on the agenda. Stockport Council supports the development of new care homes which will help to meet the needs of the community – today and for future generations.

“The plans for the Care UK home here in Cheadle show that this facility will not only be well equipped to provide a high standard of care, it will also generate much-needed employment opportunities in the county. I look forward to seeing the completed care home in 2015 and to meeting the team who will be at the helm.”

The purpose built home will offer a range of services for older people, including residential, nursing and specialist dementia care, as well as palliative, respite and end of life care.

Sensitively-designed to support residents to live active and fulfilled lives, the home will feature a cinema room and a hairdressing salon. The layout of the home has been designed to support the formation of close-knit communities – a factor which has proven particularly helpful for people living with dementia, who benefit from calm and familiar surroundings.
