Kenilworth Grange has surprised an 87-year-old resident with an afternoon of Rock ‘n’ Roll, hosted by an Elvis impersonator.
The team at Kenilworth Grange runs a Wishing Tree initiative to help make residents’ wishes come true. They decided to surprise resident – and lifelong Elvis fan – Patricia Speirs with a visit from the king of Rock ‘n’ Roll, in the shape of local Elvis impersonator Danny Fisher, to make her particular dream come true.
A Geordie by birth, Patricia loves America and American culture, having made her first solo trip to the States when she was just a teenager and has travelled extensively around the country ever since. It was there that her love for Elvis was formed and he has been ‘on her mind’ ever since, with her frequently – and loudly – listening to his back catalogue in her room, which is also adorned with photos of ‘the king’.
So, when the Kenilworth Grange home team realised just what a super-fan she was, and how much she regretted never being able to see him play live, they were determined to put on a special show.
Sheridan Farish, home manager at Kenilworth Grange, said: “Residents are at the heart of everything we do here at Kenilworth Grange, and we always like to go the extra mile to grant their wishes. I am really pleased that we were able to make Patricia’s dream of seeing Elvis (almost!) a reality!
“Patricia was happily ‘all shook up’ when Elvis greeted her at the home, and she told us she’d had a wonderful, musical afternoon. I’d like to say a big thank you to Patricia’s family for helping us grant the wish. We’re looking forward to making another wish come true soon.”
