The people of Sevenoaks were invited to celebrate the grand launch of the town’s newest care home, opened by Gloria Hunniford.
On Tuesday 13th June, the local community enjoyed a host of entertainment at Weald Heights, as part of its opening celebrations.
The team was joined by popular television and radio presenter, Gloria Hunniford, who cut the ribbon and officially opened the care home. Guests were also treated to a special performance from the pupils’ choir of St Thomas Catholic Primary School, who performed a number of acapella songs at the event.
There were plenty of fun activities on offer for all the family, including arts and crafts and animal therapy sessions with Nightingale Dogs.
Guests also had the opportunity to try the ‘Magic Table’ and play games with interactive light animations, including throwing a beach ball and playing with butterflies.Developed through ongoing PhD research, the Magic Table was engineered to stimulate both physical and cognitive activity, and encourage social interaction for people living with dementia.
Visitors tucked into afternoon tea and canapés specially prepared by head chef, Jayaraman Puthupanath-House. and there was musical entertainment throughout the day provided by harpist, Louisa Duggan, and the Swingtime Sweethearts.
Those who attended also had the chance to meet the team at Weald Heights, as well as take a tour of the care home.
Weald Heights home manager, Maria Covington, said: “We were delighted to welcome Gloria Hunniford to officially open the home and mark this important milestone. We would also like to thank the children from St Thomas Catholic Primary School, Nightingale Dogs, Louisa Duggan and Swingtime Sweethearts for helping to make this such a special day.
“Our residents and their families are at the heart of everything we do, including the launch celebrations, and it was an enjoyable day for all. It was fantastic to welcome so many local people and special guests to Weald Heights. Our grand launch really was a day to remember.”
