An afternoon of old-fashioned entertainment, as well as the opportunity to see modern residential care at its best, will be on offer in Newton Mearns, Glasgow, as the residents of Wellmeadow Lodge open the doors of their home to the public to mark the official launch of the newly refurbished Dunkeld suite.

On Thursday 3rd September members of the local community and anyone keen to find out more about the home are invited to an open afternoon, from 1.30 until 4pm. Councillor Charlie Gilbert, of East Renfrewshire Council will open the newly refurbished suite, which includes an extended lounge and dining area as well as a kitchen where residents and their relatives can make snacks and refreshments at any time.

Encouraging people to come along and see what the home has to offer, manager Sharon McGowan said: “We regularly use reminiscence activities with our residents not only because they enjoy it but also because it helps us to fully understand them. This helps us to tailor their care plans around their interests and life experiences.

“During our open afternoon, visitors will be able to enjoy entertainment from Yesterday Once More, a unique interactive reminiscence session presented by retired radio and TV presenter Dave Marshall.  I would encourage anyone supporting a loved one in the community with dementia to come along and see what reminiscence activities can do. Members of our activities team, who will be working on a daily basis with residents in the suite, will also be on hand to give advice and answer questions.”

As well as joining in the fun and being able to ask questions of the home’s care experts, visitors will be able to look around the 25-bed suite, which provides residents with round-the-clock nursing care in a friendly environment with the latest facilities.

Sharon said: “We’re very proud of the newly refurbished unit, which was designed with the help and input of residents.  We are all thrilled at how Wellmeadow Lodge is looking – the quality of life for residents is really enhanced as they can enjoy the beautiful surroundings.”

The open day is free to attend. If you are unable to make it on the day but would like to look around the home, please call 0333 434 3084 or email sharon.mcgowan@careuk.com.  For more information about Wellmeadow Lodge care home, please visit www.careuk.com/wellmeadow-lodge
