Free dementia advice event at Milner House

November 22nd 2018

Milner House is inviting the local community to a free event for families caring for those living with dementia.

On Wednesday 28th November, from 2pm-4pm, the team will open the doors to the care home for its Understanding Dementia event.

Dementia specialist Suzanne Mumford will be on hand to help people understand what it is like to live with dementia. There will also be support and practical advice on what dementia is and how memories are lost, as well as useful tips on how to overcome communication barriers.

After the event there will be a Q&A session and an opportunity to meet the team at Milner House, as well as take a closer look at the care home.

Home manager, Joe Patterson, said: “Here at Milner House,we strongly believe professional knowledge, insight and shared experiences can make a real difference to the everyday lives of those looking after a loved one living with dementia.

“The aim of the event is to help people discover positive approaches to caring for loved ones and to support them to lead independent and fulfilled lives.

“We are looking forward to welcoming local people of Leatherhead for what promises to be an interesting and inspiring afternoon of information and guidance.”

Leatherhead’s Milner House offers compassionate, professional care for your loved one. Milner House is set in a glorious listed Victorian mansion which has been tastefully updated to provide large comfortable rooms and facilities, enabling our experienced teams to provide residents with high quality care. Retaining many of its impressive features, it offers a home from home, tailored person-centred care and features a hair salon, lounges, and comfortable dining rooms. Enriching activities, such as singing, light exercise, and arts and crafts are offered, and by embracing new technology, including electronic tablets, residents can remain engaged as they learn new skills. The tablets also allow frequent family contact via video links. Taking the time to listen to residents, our teams incorporate their life story into their personalised care plan, taking note of any preferences, hobbies and favourite activities. By providing uniquely tailored care, you can relax, knowing your loved one is receiving top quality care and attention.
