Two care homes in Middlesex are inviting local people to join in their celebrations for Care Home Open Day.
Buchanan Court will be open on Thursday 27th June from 10am - 7pm, and Woodland Hall will be open on Friday 28th June from 11am - 4pm. The events celebrate Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative to create lasting relationships between care homes and their local communities.
This year’s theme celebrates the role of arts within care, which is important in encouraging residents’ self-expression, and helps to create meaningful experiences.
Homes have organised art-themed parties to celebrate the open day, with entertainment, activities and creative fun. Visitors can look forward to polishing their artistic skills with arts and craft sessions, and will have the opportunity to buy handmade soap at Woodland Hall and enjoy a storytelling session. At Buchanan Court, Arts for Dementia will also be on hand to help produce a canvas picture focused on what the home represents to residents, alongside an art exhibition filled with their paintings.
Ruth Halls, home manager at Buchanan Court, said: “Everyone at Buchanan Court is getting excited for our Care Home Open Day event – it’s always great to see new faces visiting our home, as well as welcoming old friends, and I know this year will be just the same.”
Olga Richardson, home manager at Woodland Hall, added: “The residents are really looking forward to the storytelling session and being able to showcase their work after the event.”
